I thought I would tell you a little bit about me to let you get to know the person behind the business.
I’m currently based in the beautiful Scottish Borders having lived in various UK locations previously and Doha, Qatar.
When I was ten years old I was diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and neither the Drs nor other specialists I saw ever questioned or mentioned diet to me or my parents, I was just given different medications to take to help ease the side effects. Due to this I never thought the junk and processed food I consumed during my teens and twenties was having a negative impact on my body, I just assumed all the symptoms were linked to my IBS and carried on taking my medications and didn’t stop to think that my diet was actually causing me to be ill.
Although I’ve never had a weight problem, I have, like most people, seen me gain some weight and my clothes have felt just a bit too tight which made me feel insecure about my body. I would then try one of a number of diets (Dukhan, Harcombe, Rosemary Conley) to lose the excess weight I had. While I did stick to the diets until I felt more comfortable in my clothes, they were so restrictive and took the joy out of eating. I absolutely adore food so to be told you can only have x amount of this or x amount of that just went against everything I loved about food and eating.
It wasn’t until I was diagnosed with gluten and dairy intolerances by my Dr that I became interested in learning how food can be used as medicine and the many benefits of different foods. I totally changed my relationship with food, no more restrictions, but I ate whole, real food and discovered my passion for cooking and experimenting with different foods. I soon began a food blog for the recipes I created as I wanted to share that healthy food isn’t all about lettuce and salads and restrictions.
I quickly realised that learning about the nutrition aspect of food and how food can be one person’s poison and another person’s medicine was something I was passionate about and wanted to do this as a career to help people live the healthiest, happiest lives they can. After some research, I discovered the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and enrolled in their Health Coach Programme. To read more about my training click here.
I hope this gives you a glimpse of my journey which got me to where I am today – healthier, happier and IBS free.
